Autumn- Case Study

http://www.happa.org.uk/news/autumn-2/

Autumn, 13hh dark bay Dartmoor mare, was brought into the Centre in September 2011.
Autumn had been abandoned and left to roam for approximately 9 months in the Shafton area of Barnsley, South Yorkshire. She had been terrorised by hooligans who found their entertainment by chasing her on quad bikes. Other unruly children subjected her to further trauma by throwing bricks at her. This poor little pony had to be darted in order to take her safety to our Rescue Centre and was a quivering wreck on arrival. She had completely lost all trust in humans and her road to rehabilitation was certainly going to be a long one.
Autumn was assessed by our expert equine behaviourist and a programme was developed to rehabilitate her using Natural Horsemanship techniques. Her progress to date has been marvellous and although still nervous of strangers, Autumn has regained her faith in humanity, now has a good quality of life and her future is secure.
However HAPPA grooms and riders have provided her with excellent care and she is now available for rehoming as a rideable equine.
"Autumn came into the centre in 2011 & was very timid and fearful of human contact. Here at HAPPA our team have worked hard with her to gain her trust & it is amazing to now see her really enjoying ridden work! She would be most comfortable on a one to one basis and would thrive working closely with her new owner. She likes being outdoors and once you have got her in the stable block, she is easy to groom and worm. For her to fully thrive, she would need lots of your time and patience and would ideally need an experienced handler.
She was recently awarded with 60% at a recent Dressage competition!
Autumn is now available as fully rideable!"

My own photographs taken at the centre:

As I approached the stable on the day I spoke to one of the grooms and she explained that she wouldn't be a novice ride as she is quite forward going (incredibly fast). She is also quite nervous and it seemed to take quite a while for her to become comfortable with my presence, however I think I gained some fantastic shots and really enjoyed the experience with her, an exceptionally beautiful pony.
